The ongoing drought plaguing the Western United States has brought to light how we use water in our lives, industry, agriculture and environment. The social and political issues surrounding water use are many—and extremely nuanced.
On this week’s episode of The Water Zone Radio Show, we’ll talk to Rita Sudman, former Executive Director of the Water Education Foundation, and co-author of Water: More or Less. In her book, she and co-author Stephanie Taylor paint a stunning and thought-provoking picture of contemporary water issues, the policies that brought us to this point, and offers solutions to help us move forward.
We’ll also talk to Pat Mulroy, former General Manager of the Southern Nevada Water Authority, and a leading figure in Western water. During her time with the Southern Nevada Water Authority, she played an active role in water issues, and ultimately in shaping water policy (you can read more about her work in this article). She is responsible for reshaping the water politics of the Colorado River. Pat now serves as a nonresident senior fellow at the Metropolitan Policy Program at the Brookings Institute, and also serves as the senior fellow for climate adaptation and environmental policy at the Brookings Mountain West at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
